Meet Evgeny Gelman

Dr. Evgeny Gelman joined ARC in January and provides comprehensive vitreoretinal care in Michigan at the Grand Rapids and Norton Shores locations. He earned his medical degree at Tel Aviv University and completed his ophthalmology residency at Shaare Zedek Medical Center (Hebrew University–Hadassah) in Jerusalem, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Gelman went on to complete a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.

Dr. Gelman treats the full spectrum of retinal disease and surgical retina conditions. His clinical expertise includes diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and complex intraocular lens fixation procedures, including scleral fixation. He has served as an investigator in clinical trials, authored peer-reviewed publications, and lectured on a range of retina and vitreoretinal surgical topics.

He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Vit-Buckle Society, EURETINA, and the Israeli Ophthalmological Society, and serves as a reviewer for Retina Journal. Dr. Gelman is committed to collaborative care and clear, timely communication with referring providers to ensure high-quality, coordinated outcomes for patients.

A dedicated clinician and educator, Dr. Gelman is known for pairing meticulous surgical technique with a practical, patient-centered approach. He speaks Hebrew, Russian, and English.
